This is a sad story that I hope is well read. Managed health plans, Advantage Plans, make money by collecting a fixed premium up front and their profit comes from not paying out the money for the actual health care needs of their subscribers. Medicare and Medegap policies generally pay for everything necessary, and as the article says, without referrals. The low premiums for Advantage Plans are a "come on", and clearly you get what you pay for.
