Nova Diabetes Care has recalled a variety of blood sugar testing strip products after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found the tests could be giving users false and abnormally high blood glucose readings, HealthDay reports. The voluntary recall includes 21 lots of Nova Max Glucose Test Strips, as well as strips included in the Nova Max Plus glucose meter kits. Medical experts warned the faulty test strips might cause diabetes patients to over-correct their blood glucose levels, potentially resulting in hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Nova says it has since notified all registered users, pharmacies and health care providers about the recall. Concerned patients can visit Nova’s website or call the company at 800.681.7390.
