Daily appreciation for life’s small micro-moments of laughter, joy and happiness may make you a happier, more all-around resilient person, according to a new study reported on in the Los Angeles Times.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina required 86 participants to submit daily “emotion reports” that described in detail their emotional state throughout the day. The study concluded that although positive people didn’t deny life’s upsetting realities, they were also able to enjoy and savor the small, everyday pleasures.

According to the article, the study also indicated that people’s ability to be happy in small ways also elevated their overall mood. In addition, it helped them develop even more resilience to handle life’s setbacks.

Can’t see the silver lining? Reflect on at least one thing you enjoyed about your day and write it down.
