A new financial forecast by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria estimates more than $1.6 billion in additional funding will be available in the 2012 to 2014 period, according to a Global Fund statement. The money is the result of actions taken by the Global Fund board of directors to improve financial supervision and overall efficiency. Also, renewed confidence in the effectiveness of the Global Fund has led to new donations from some countries and accelerated donations from others. In addition, some recipient countries have volunteered to forgo some funds in favor of nations with more pressing needs.
