If you’re a male who uses a cell phone researchers believe there’s a possibility that mobile phone use may jeopardize your ability to procreate. Last year, a study from Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic suggested that men who used their cell phones for more than four hours a day had significantly lower sperm quality than men who used their phones less. Recently, the researchers announced updated findings supporting their original data.

They found that sperm exposed to high amounts of radio-frequency energy (released by cell phones) contained higher levels of harmful free radicals and a decreased amount of protective antioxidants compared with sperm.  Researchers believe this causes a decline in the sperm’s health.

“Since many people are now using hands-free sets with their cell phones for various health and safety reasons, it’s important that we continue studying this topic to gain a better understanding of the true impact these devices are having on every part of the body,” says Edmund Sabanegh, MD, the clinic’s director.
