More Sugar, More Cavities

Tooth decay is rising in young children, according to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics. Consumption of sugary foods and drinks, as well as bottled water (which is not treated with fluoride, like many public water supplies) are cited as possible reasons for the increase; according to the report, between 1999 and 2004, almost 30 percent of children aged 2 to 5 had a cavity in at least one baby tooth.
