Protect Your Eyes

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), many adults don’t buy sunglasses with eye protection from ultraviolet (UVA or UVB) rays in mind. When searching for your next pair of shades, remember these tips from the AOA:

  • Wear protective eyewear year-round, even in the winter or on cloudy days.
  • Buy quality sunglasses or contact lenses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB radiation and screen out 75 to 90 percent of visible light.
  • Buy sunglasses with gray or amber-colored lenses to reduce light intensity and that either leave objects their natural color or increase their contrast, respectively
  • Remember to get protective eyewear for children and teens who, typically, spend more time in the sun.
