Do you think that Obama is going to win because the Republicans have such a bad candidate? Why did John McCain make his final argument against Obama... coal? That's his closing argument? William Ayers, Rev. Wright, spreading the wealth, Born Alive, meeting dictators without preconditions, etc. all have to take a back seat so that McCain can go to Colorado and New Mexico to talk about coal? Does this more or less explain why he's going to get his clock cleaned Tuesday?

For more than a decade,Safe Sex Serosorting has broken the cycle of new HIV transmissions, has made safe sex safer, has reunited mankind to achieve a single, common goal to reignite the excitement of HIV Prevention. Serosorting, Having sex with your own HIV status. There are three forms of Serosorting, and two involve safe sex. Serosorting began back in the mid 1990’s as an HIV Prevention and Harm Reduction Strategy in New York City, NY and has now become an international phenomenon.

When I was negative, I had ambivalent feelings about becoming positive. I eventually sexualized the desire for annihilation, which drove me to frequent barebacking and becoming positive. I didn't need a virtual cruise ship to show me how to have fun safe sex. I needed to believe that I was worth caring for. It's a very complicated issue. I think we should aim a significant portion of our prevention funds at improving the self love of grade school queers. It may be too late for us older ones.

As a 46 year old gay man, my introduction to gay “life” at age 19 was through anonymous, secret, shameful hookups at the local interstate rest stop. That’s all there was in suburban NJ in 1979. Despite the progress gays have made in society, I believe we are still a largely despised and marginalized group. The familial and societal disapproval creates internalized hatred that, at least in my case (and I suspect in many others), translates into a desire for annihilation....

This is very useful research. But its singular focus on HIV is regrettable. Herpes and HPV are far far easier to catch than HIV. HPV can cause anal and oral cancer and Herpes generally requires life long medication to avoid transmission. STD prevention shouldn't stop with HIV!

It never ceases to amaze me that people with excellent educational backgrounds can be so misled by raw statistics. In the '70s and '80s, hooked up in bath houses were at a much higher rate than on the Internet today. The explosion of HIV/AIDS in the '80s was a direct result of that behavior. The Internet may make encounters easier than in the '90s but not to the levels of the pre-HIV days.Still, I am amazed at the number of online personals sites - like Yahoo! that don't display HIV status.

The Internet isn't going away, and it wouldn't be as big a factor if gay men weren't so ready to dismiss the risk to themselves and others for a moment's pleasure. In the Seattle area, I find otherwise intelligent and sensitive men unconcerned and politely dismissive of risk. Few of them experienced, or choose to recall the face of visible AIDS in the 1980s and the loss of many, many friends, family, and loved ones... it is brutally saddening and discouraging.

The Internet and hook-up sites are both a medium for transmission and prevention. Not only can a website user learn about someone's sexual desires simply by reading a profile but they can also learn about another's sexual health without having to 'have the conversation'. It is worth considering that effective Internet interventions include educating gay men as to the importance of honesty in regards to their profile and how to be good risk negotiators.
