Surely there's another explanation of these results - HCV infection exacerbates or mimics the effect of PTSD, and this effect is genotype-dependent - because the drugs one is given for it are (some also have better psych side-effect profiles than others)? HCV infection could worsen PTSD by oxidative stress, RNA virus depletion of selenium (and thus on oxidative stress and thyroid function), and autoimmune effects on microbiome and food sensitivity, quite apart from the effect on liver function.
