Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Mana Lumumba-Kasongo is an emergency physician in Albany, Georgia, as well as a nationally published writer. In writing our feature on breast cancer, she found that “women have to be their best advocates and take ownership of their health care.”

Senior editor Laura Whitehorn writes extensively about health and nutrition, but in editing the RH eating challenge, she was tasked with the seemingly impossible: “It’s a challenge to eat healthfully without cooking,” she says. Whitehorn is also an editor for POZ, an HIV/AIDS magazine.
