Consuming more than two alcoholic drinks a day can put women at greater risk for developing heart rhythm disturbances—irregular changes to one’s heartbeat—according to a recent report conducted by American and Swedish researchers.
Scientists tracked middle-aged American women without atrial fibrillation—a type of abnormal heart rhythm—for more than 12 years. They found that those who drank more than two cocktails a day increased their risk for atrial fibrillation by 60 percent.
