My question has to do with the ethical implications of studies that recruit participants in developing countries. Participants in these trials will test positive on a traditional HIV antibody test. Will they have access to free viral load or PCR tests for years or decades to come? I also wonder about studies that use a placebo when we have an effective standard of care. For HIV prevention, the standard of care is PrEP. Will these study participants, vulnerable to HIV infection, be offered PrEP?
