This problem could've been easily avoided if the democrats controlling congress had allowed people with preexisting conditions to automatically qualify for Medicare! The financial burden on insurance companies would be nonexistent today. Congress didn't do this because they were more worried about reelection, which is why many of us didn't vote in 2010. They could've done so much more, but their cushy political jobs were more important than expanding Medicare for preexisting conditions!

Jacob, please read the article again- the insurers did not have any financial burden, they posted significant revenue. They whined and stamped their feet because they did not get what they wanted, a merger with Humana. Insurance is the most crooked business there is, yet we all have to have it, so they get to call the shots.
