Chicago’s two HIV/AIDS councils are merging, according to an announcement by the city’s Department of Public Health and reported in the Chicago Phoenix. On April 30, the existing councils—the Chicago Area HIV Service Planning Council and the Chicago HIV Prevention and Planning Group—will officially disband, to be replaced by the Chicago Area HIV Integrated Services Council. The new organization’s membership will include members of the previous councils, as well as new applicants. Like its predecessors, the new council will help allocate federal HIV funding to Chicago and ensure that the city’s HIV programs meet federal regulations and guidelines.
