The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a new pilot project to provide rapid HIV testing at 24 rural and urban sites, according to the AIDS.gov blog. The two-year initiative is intended to serve as a model of how to expand HIV testing in community settings by training pharmacists and clinic staff to conduct rapid HIV tests and connect people to care and local counseling services. Out of the 1.1 million people living with HIV in the United States, roughly one out of five do not know their status.
