More Vitamin D for Black Women

Current Vitamin D recommendations for postmenopausal black women may need to be raised, suggests new research. The study, which is published in the December issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, examined 208 postmenopausal black women, found that black women could need amounts as high as 50 μg (2000 IU) or 70 μg (2800 IU) of Vitamin D per day, compared to the generally recommended 10 to 15 μg (400-600 IU) per day.

A recent study showed that Vitamin D might protect against heart disease, diabetes and some 17 different types of cancer. Click here to read, “Vitamin D Makes the Grade” (Real Health, Fall 2007) for more info.
