The Michigan Department of Community Health is investigating whether private health information pertaining to thousands of HIV-positive residents and their partners was improperly released, The American Independent reports. A department spokesperson said she does not believe an “unauthorized disclosure of health information” occurred, but an investigation is ongoing. Michigan maintains confidential records in its HIV Event System, which permanently stores data about people who have tested positive for HIV, including names and other identifying information.
