Toxic Shock Syndrome Risk Reduced by New Tampon

A team of researchers from the University of Minnesota, suggest that they have created a tampon that reduces the risk of menstrual toxic shock syndrome (TSS)—a release of toxins from an overgrowth of a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus, known to cause death. Their tampon has a new fiber coating, Glycerol monolaurate (GML), which they assert helps maintain a healthy bacterial balance. Johnson & Johnson plans on putting them on the market in the near future.
