If You Were Having a Heart Attack, Would You Know?

A new report conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that a majority of Americans wouldn’t recognize that they were having a heart attack. Researchers found that only 31 percent of respondents knew all five signs of a heart attack: shortness of breath; chest pain; pain in jaw, neck or back; pain in arm and shoulder and weakness or lightheadness.

They also found that minorities, men and people with less education were less likely to know the signs and call 911 for help. The CDC points out, “Heart attack deaths would decrease if more people got to the hospital at the first warning signs.”
