Caring for a Man With Prostate Cancer?

Individuals who care for men with prostate cancer may be at risk for anxiety, fatigue and other factors that may take a toll on their quality of life, according to a new study.

Helping caregivers could also help the person battling disease. The study of 60 female caregivers of men with prostate cancer found that 40 percent suffered from anxiety symptoms, 12 percent suffered from depression and about a third reported fatigue or sleep disturbances. Fifteen percent said they experienced bodily pain.

According to the researchers, about 44 million Americans care for an adult family member.

Many organizations offer support for caregivers. Wellspouse.org lists information by state on support groups for individuals who are taking care of a spouse.
