Fruits and Veggies Can Protect Against Asthma?

A traditional Mediterranean diet—a low-saturated-fat regimen consisting mostly of fruits, vegetables, wheat, olive oil and fish—has been shown to benefit pregnant women. Researchers found that children of mothers-to-be who followed the plan were 80 percent less likely to have persistent wheezing (common symptom of asthma) and 40 percent less likely to develop allergies.

It is believed that the high level of antioxidants—substances that protect cells from dangerous molecules called free radicals—plays a role in the findings, but Ledi Chatzi, the report’s author asserts that more research needs to be done to fully explain why.
