Falls, suffocation, drowning and burns are the four biggest causes of infant death and injury at home, reports Parenting.com. More than 2,000 children die from unintentional injuries at home each year. Parents can take a variety of steps in order to prevent these injuries, including installing baby gates to prevent falls, and avoiding falling asleep with your baby in the bed to avoid suffocation.
Other dangers: cribs cluttered with pillows and blankets can be a suffocation hazard; water left in cleaning buckets around the house pose the threat of drowning; and, hot coffee left on a tabletop can topple over and scald young children.
