FDA Scours Salt in Foods

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering limiting the amount of salt that different foods are allowed to contain.

According to an MSNBC.com article, the average American eats 50 percent more sodium than the maximum recommendation. Cutting the amounts of salt allowed in processed foods could prevent thousands of deaths from cardiovascular disease each year.

Salt can contribute to the development of high blood pressure, and since studies have shown that more than 40 percent of African Americans have high blood pressure, it’s important to find ways to lower the amount of salt you consume each day. Click here to read tips.
