Elderly Patients Receive Poor Health Care

The quality of care that elderly Medicare and Medicaid patients are receiving is barely acceptable say U.S. researchers. They examined healthcare received by more than 100,000 older people in California between 1999 and 2000 and found that the most vulnerable patients received only 65 percent of recommended tests, diagnostic evaluations and treatments. For example, only 42 percent of patients with diabetes were tested to evaluate their blood sugar control.
