For the millions of people yearning to replace shed hair and pare off pounds, a treatment that does both would probably be like a dream come true. Well, recent study findings may lead to the development of a product that might do just that, reported ScienceDaily.com.

According to researchers, the findings confirmed the protein that triggers hair follicle growth also restrains the production of fat. “The specific chemicals identified in this study could be produced synthetically and used in creams for topical application to the skin to modulate growth of fat beneath the skin,” said Rodney Sinclair, a professor of dermatology from the University of Melbourne, one of the study’s two lead authors.

When users applied the cream to any particular place, the treatment would work to pause “the production of factors that contribute to fall cell growth,” Sinclair added.

Of course, much more research needs to be conducted before a cream of this kind would make it to store shelves.
