Fired Manager Sues Burger King for HIV Discrimination
A former Burger King manager has filed a lawsuit in federal
court claiming the fast-food company fired him because he has HIV, The
Huffington Post reports. Christopher Pena, a seven-year staffer, said the
company let him go after he disclosed his status to a supervisor and that the
dismissal violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. Though he originally
struggled with his decision to disclose, Pena ultimately decided to tell his
supervisor in case he needed time off from work for health-related reasons.
Three months later, he was fired for allegedly poor work performance though
Pena claimed he had never before been disciplined or warned. Burger King has
not yet filed a response in court to Pena’s claim.
