Arson Attack on Women's HIV Group in New Orleans
The offices of Women With a Vision (WWAV), a New Orleans–based
organization that provides health care and support for poor minority women,
were broken into and set on fire, resulting in significant losses for the group,
MRZine reports. Advocates believe that suspects directly targeted information,
files and materials crucial for WWAV to carry out its work. The fire has forced
WWAV to temporarily close, and the group is seeking an interim space, as well
as donations to continue carrying out its mission. WWAV was founded to meet a
lack of HIV prevention resources for at-risk women, including poor women, sex
workers, women with substance abuse issues and transgender women.
