Do Whole Grains = a Flatter Midsection?

We already know that whole grains are a great source of fiber and that they cut cholesterol. Now a study suggests they can help shrink your midsection too. Researchers followed 50 obese adults (with a body-mass index of 30 or higher) for 12 weeks and found that those who cut calories and increased their whole grains intake lost more belly fat than those who cut calories and ate refined flour foods instead. Too much abdominal fat has been linked to strokes and heart disease.

Experts suggest eating three or more servings of whole grains a day. RH  suggests boosting your whole grain intake by eating oatmeal, popcorn, brown rice, millet and whole-wheat pastas and crackers. Avoid foods such as white rice, white enriched bread and grits.
