FDA Urges Cough Medicine Ban

Federal health officials are recommending that very young children not be given some commonly used cold medicines and suggest that advice telling parents to consult their physicians regarding young children be removed from labels. The recommendation, made by Food and Drug Administration safety officials, would apply to decongestant use in children under the age of 2, and antihistamines for kids younger than 6. Cough medicines have been scrutinized recently by some health experts who debate both their efficacy and safety in young children.
