Extra Infection Risk for Black Women

A pregnant woman’s risk of contracting one of the most common types of vaginal infection is higher if she or her male partner is black, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Bacterial vaginosis is not a sexually transmitted infection but rather occurs when there is an abundance of certain bacteria in the vagina. The infection, which can be treated with antibiotics and creams, is a significant risk factor for preterm birth.
