The Depression-Diabetes Link

Older adults who suffer from depression may have an increased risk of developing diabetes over time, according to researchers at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. The researchers followed almost 4,700 adults over the age of 65 for 10 years, and found that the rate of diabetes at the end of the study was higher for people who’d experienced depression. However, the study authors say that more research is needed to determine if treating depression could help lower a person’s risk of diabetes.
