50% of HIV Transmissions Occur When People Don’t Know Their Status

In about half of all new HIV transmissions, the partner transmiting HIV does not yet know that he or she is positive,  according to a report in the April issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases.  People with HIV are especially infectious just after they’ve become infected because their bodies haven’t yet begun to produce antibodies.
