Obesity Raises Risk of Pregnancy Complications

A woman’s risk of pregnancy problems increases if she is overweight or obese, suggests a recent British study of 24,000 women. Compared to women of average weight, obese women were 50 percent more likely to suffer from post-delivery bleeding, and they were twice as likely to give birth prematurely. Women who are concerned about how their weight might affect their pregnancy should speak with their doctors about healthy ways to lose weight.
