The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Tuesday that it will give $5.5 million to fund research on E. coli, the deadly bacteria responsible for three deaths in the past year from contaminated bagged spinach as well as contaminated produce at fast food establishments such as Taco Bell.
The study will look at the origins of the bacteria and way farmers and food suppliers can prevent future contaminations.
