Wherever You Are: A Plan to Reach Black America About HIV
There was a reunion of sorts last weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona, where 60 leaders representing 19 African-American organizations discussed the future of AIDS in black America while a rare thunderstorm saturated the desert around them. Last time they met—in sunny Toronto last summer at the International AIDS Conference—it was to exchange promises for a new national campaign to fight HIV. Scottsdale was step two: time for a plan of action. “This is about getting them to do,” explained the Black AIDS Institute's Phill Wilson, the man behind the National Black Leaders AIDS Strategic Planning Summit.

History of Violence: Why African Americans Distrust Medicine
Medical ethicist and writer Harriet Washington's new book, “Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present,” chronicles the medical abuses of black patients that has led to a state of distrust and guarded suspicion of the medical establishment. Real Health’s Nicole Joseph talked to Washington about black invisibility in medical history, the unthinkable experiments performed on our ancestors and how medicine can help heal the lack of trust.

Queen Latifah stars in HIV drama, Life Support
Usually glam in her Cover Girl commercials or slapstick hilarious in films like Bringing Down the House, Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah is getting serious about HIV in black America in her new HBO movie, which premieres Saturday, March 10.
