F.A.C.E. Off: Angie Stone vs. Diabetes
As one of the 246 million people worldwide with diabetes, neo-soul singer Angie Stone accidentally discovered she had the condition during a doctor’s visit. According to statistics from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), 25 percent of African Americans between ages 65 and 74 have diabetes. Many others, like Stone, aren’t aware they have it until something happens. Now the singer is a spokesperson for the Fearless African Americans Connected and Empowered (F.A.C.E.) Diabetes campaign. Don’t wait to find out whether you have diabetes, Stone says—and she is on a mission to encourage blacks to get tested, take control of their health and learn how to better manage the disease.
